Introduction

Rummy declaration rules decide whether a dramatic tap is a win or an 80-point gift. The rummy app does not negotiate. It checks groups. This article lists what those checks expect on Indian 13 card tables.

Count groups before you tap Declare

If you cannot name the pure sequence in one breath, wait one more turn.

Practise grouping in the demo so the first real declare is not a guess.

Rules

Valid: two sequences including one pure, remaining cards in sequences or sets, final discard made, no leftover singleton.

Invalid: no pure sequence; sequence with mixed suits; set with duplicated suit; using joker inside the only ‘pure'run; declaring with 12 grouped cards and one stray king.

Penalties depend on format. Points rummy often uses a maximum of 80. Read points rummy explained and the parent rules page.

Tips

Before you declare, count groups on your fingers. If you cannot name the pure sequence in one breath, wait.

Checklist before every show

Say this out loud. One: I have a pure sequence without a joker. Two: I have another sequence. Three: leftover cards are sets or extra sequences. Four: no duplicated suit inside a set. Five: Ace placement matches table rules. Six: I discarded the final unwanted card. If any line is a maybe, it is not a declaration yet.

Invalid gallery. Gallery A: 5—6—Joker called “pure—It is not. Gallery B: 9—9—9—as a set. Duplicate hearts. Gallery C: K—A—2—as a run on a no-wrap table. Gallery D: 12 cards grouped, 7—floating. Floating cards fail the show. Gallery E: declaring because the timer is scary. Timers do not rewrite rummy rules.

Valid gallery. 3—4—5—9—10—J—6—6—6—2—2—Joker, plus a 4-card sequence if counts need 13. Count the cards. 13 exactly. The rummy app will.
