Rummy Rules: Indian Valid Show Checklist

Game Name: Indian RummyCategory: Online RummyRegion: India

Search intent: the rules reference (what is legal, what is penalised). For the tap-by-tap walkthrough, use How to Play. For deal size and scoring math, use 13 Card Rummy Format. For a short beginner list, use Basics: Indian rules.

Introduction

These rummy rules describe the Indian 13 card rummy game used in most APKs. Two decks are shuffled. Printed jokers are wild. One extra card is opened to select the wild joker rank. Each player is dealt 13 cards. The aim is a valid show: all cards grouped, at least two sequences, and one of those sequences pure.

Why these rules matter on Indian APKs

House rules vary at Diwali tables. Online Rummy software enforces one pure sequence, legal sets, and joker limits.

New players should pair this page with how to play rummy and the demo. Intermediate players can jump to declaration rules.

Sequences and sets

A sequence is three or more consecutive cards of one suit. A pure sequence uses no joker. An impure sequence may use one or more jokers as substitutes. A set is three or four cards of the same rank from different suits. Duplicate suits in a set are not allowed when two decks make that possible. For picture examples, read sequences and sets.

13 card rummy rules for jokers

Printed jokers and the wild joker complete impure groups only. They never sit inside a pure sequence. You may hold more than one joker, but spending both on one group while another group is empty is usually a weak plan. Full examples are on rummy joker. Strategy for joker placement lives on the strategy page.

Draw, discard and drop

On your turn you draw one card, either closed or from the open pile, then discard one card. Some tables allow a first-hand drop and a middle drop with different point caps. Points rummy, explained in this guide, uses those drop values often.

EventTypical points (Points rummy)Notes
First drop20Before your first draw on some tables.
Middle drop40After you have drawn at least once.
Invalid show80 (table maximum)Missing a pure sequence, mixed-suit run, leftover card.
Lost deal (legal groups leftover)Face value, capped at 80A, K, Q, J = 10; pip cards = rank; jokers = 0.

House APKs can change the numbers. This page states the common Indian software pattern so you know what “penalty” means. Practise grouping in the demo before you tap Show on a live table.

Declaration and penalties

When you believe the 13 cards are valid, you discard a final card to declare. The rummy APK checks groups. Missing a pure sequence, mixing suits in a sequence, or placing two cards of the same suit in a set makes the hand invalid. Invalid shows typically score 80 points in points rummy. Ungrouped cards add their face value, capped at the table maximum.

Practise grouping in the demo, then download the rummy APK. Deeper reading: 13 card rummy guide and about online rummy.
