Rummy Joker Rules for Indian Rummy / Online Rummy
Game Name: Indian RummyCategory: Online RummyRegion: India
Introduction
A rummy joker is a substitute card. In 13 card Indian Rummy it never replaces skill: it only fills one missing rank in an impure sequence or a set. Online Rummy tables in India use two decks, printed jokers, and one wild joker rank chosen after the deal.
Never put a joker in your pure sequence
That single mistake turns a ready hand into an invalid declaration on most Indian apps.

Printed joker vs wild joker
Printed jokers are the extra cartoon cards in the pack. The wild joker is every card of the rank opened from the closed deck. If 7 of diamonds is opened, all remaining 7s become wild for that deal. Both types follow the same grouping law: they may complete impure groups only.
Where a joker is legal
Use a joker to finish 4-5-joker in one suit, or 9-9-joker as a set of different suits. Do not place a joker inside the one group you need as a pure sequence. That is the most common invalid declaration on Indian apps.
You may hold more than one joker. Spending both on one pretty run while another group is empty usually costs more than it saves. Strategy for that choice is on rummy strategy.
Scoring
A joker inside a valid group is worth zero deadwood. An unused joker does not cancel a king still sitting ungrouped. Points rummy still caps a loss; see points rummy.

FAQ
Can a rummy joker sit in a pure sequence?
No. A pure sequence must be consecutive cards of one suit with no printed joker and no wild joker.
What is a wild joker in Online Rummy?
After the deal, one card is opened. Cards of that rank become wild jokers for the hand, plus any printed jokers.
Do unused jokers score points?
Jokers in a valid group score zero. Unused jokers do not wipe other deadwood. Fix the rest of the 13 cards before you declare.
